Perth user wins Corel art award

January 1995

Sam Blight of Rangs Boomerangs in Nedlands won a prize for page layout and design in the Corel Artshow Competition. His entry, is a catalogue for Rangs Boomerangs. It is featured on page 56 of the Corel Artshow 5 book. He also has a gurnsey pictured in another Corel book that has not been released in Australia.

As part of his prize he was flown with 61 other entrants to Ottawa, Canada for the awards night for this annual event. Sam found the trip a grat experience, especially being able to "buttonhole" other finalists to talk about how they had created their entries, and their approaches to Corel art.

Sam began using Corel in 1992, beginning with V2 and soon upgraded to V3, which he used for his entry. He won a copy of V5 in the competition. He has found Corel 5 very powerful, but his tip: you need 16mb of RAM and a 50mz machine.

He uses Corel to create the graphics, point of sale and promotional material for his company's range of boomerangs. Rangs manufacture and sell a wide range of boomerangs to the sports, leisure and souvenir industries both in Australia and overseas.
