Web Surf for DTP

The WWW is a great source of DTP updates and extras, we took a look around and came across these site of interest:

Microsoft

Fonts
Microsoft have recently released some free TrueType fonts intended for use on the Web, but are quite OK for DTP work too (in fact their designers hope this is what will happen). The typefaces have been optimised for use at low screen resolutions and custom designed for Microsoft by leading type designers Vincent Connare and Matthew Carter with hinting by Thomas Rickner of Monotype.

The fonts are Trebuchet MS, Georgia and Verdana. You can get more information or download the fonts via anonymous FTP from Microsoft.

Office 97 / Publisher 97 Graphics
Users of Microsoft Office 97 and Publisher 97 have access to a continuously expanding online clipart collection which includes clipart in CGM and WMF formats, images, sound and video. Microsoft also run an e-mail notification service to which you can subscribe and be informed when new images are added in categories of interest to you.

The clipart collection is implemented such that you download images and they are added to your existing clipart gallery that was installed with Office or Publisher. Also any time if you are looking for clipart and can't find what you want a little world icon invites you to click it and launch your Web browser to browse the latest online offerings.

If you use Office or Publisher 97 Microsoft's Gallery Live is worth a visit.
