Windows 95 and DTP

The Incompatibilities

Freehand V4 has a number of problems when used with Win 95. No fix is planned, so unfortunately you'll need to upgrade to V5 to work successfully with 95!

Photoshop V3 has lots of problems on Win 95, especially saving files - very frustrating. The solution: buy the upgrade to V3.05. Bonus goodies include a GIF file that allows definition of transparent areas for WWW pages.

Early Corel 5 CDs have problems with Win 95. Corel suggest revision G or later.

Corel 4 does not install onto Win 95 and is not supported by Corel on this platform (presumably V3 has the same problem.)

Corel 6 CDs prior to Build 176 have problems running under Win 95 where the Windows install was NOT done as an upgrade from Win 3.11.

Lasermaster printers: if you plan to run Win 95 and you have a Canon printer engine - there is no printer driver - and no plans for one! If you have the HP version a driver is available - but at a cost. (Boo!)

Brother HL8-PS printers: need an upgrade to the latest version of firmware to work with Win 95.
