"No Setup" proves popular
Much to our surprise, quite a few users are taking the trouble to make their own Postscript files, with a high rate of success too. While we expected a few of the very experienced would want the advantages of reduced cost and faster throughput, we are finding that many people are prepared to experiment to really get a handle on the process of imagesetting and eliminate the setup. Well done!
If you want to try it, the imagesetter drivers are available either from our office, the Desktop BBS or via FTP. The Zip file includes a read.me with installation tips.
PERFECT POSTSCRIPT
-
Always select which pages to print. Many packages have a
default of ALL, which could be disastrous.
-
Likewise for colour separations. Check that only the colours
you need are selected. CorelDRAW! defaults to every colour in the
file, which often produces "phantom" blank pages because there
is a hidden object in an extra colour.
-
ALWAYS attempt a colour separated print out to your laser
printer!
-
Set the screen ruling you need.
-
Don't set mirror image or negative controls.
-
Clearly specify the type of film on your order. Screen print,
offset negative, pad print etc.
-
If you set crop marks make sure you select a paper size
which is larger than the page size. e.g.. A4 with crops needs A4 extra
or B4 paper (we still charge it at A4). Don't select A3, as this is
wasteful, and you will pay for A3 pages if that is what comes out.
The important point in all of this is attention to detail.
If you're rushing and don't have time to be thorough get the bureau
operator to do the setup for you it's probably cheaper.
