We're on the Web!

When Type Tamer decided to have a presence on the Internet the wish list became a tall order. The only thing that the crew agreed on was that we wanted more than an over-glorified advertisement like many of the corporate pages we had seen. We wanted something people would want to use. It had to be a valuable source of information. It had to be easily accessed, maintainable and different. To do all that we needed an in-house World Wide Web site.

First build your Unix server... add a permanent Internet connection... About a year later, we're happy to announce that we're online!

The Bureau menu offers information about TT, such as what we do, price lists and bureau email. If you're using Netscape Navigator 2 or higher, you can also use the Web file transfer facility we've developed. It is easy to use, just fill in the on-screen form and your file is as good as here.

The Links menu has hot-links to other WWW sites. It includes Adobe, Corel Corp, several font archives, a type museum and even a site that helps you choosing a typeface.

The Resources area is the biggest part, with the last newsletter (and this hopefully this one) plus older newsletter articles listed according to topic. Each one has been republished to make use of the Web's powerful linking capabilities. All the Tips and Tricks published in the newsletters (plus a few more) have been combined, then divided according to the package they relate to.

Supporting the articles is a hot-linked glossary to provide plain English explanations for industry gobbledegook. It includes general computing, DTP, prepress and printing terminology. Have you ever needed to find out what is meant by terms like: head to head, blueline, redline, rasterize or ASCII?

In addition to the fun Web stuff, our permanent Internet connection also means FTP transmissions and email to anyone at TT are delivered instantly.
