WA Birthmarks

Tired of the hearsay?
In this series of articles we have asked the relevant authorities for the facts on commonly used symbols. We are interested mainly in the detail of the artwork requirements - how do we get it right? The other items covered in the series are Australian Company Numbers and the Australian Made logo.

There are now two symbols which are the property of every genuine manufacturer in Western Australia.

Both symbols are protected by the Western Australian Products Symbol Act, 1972. So long as they are used correctly, it is not necessary to seek permission or pay a fee. There are fines for incorrect use.

The Birthmarks may only be used on products manufactured in, or by businesses which are owned, 50% or more within Western Australia.

The Made in Western Australia symbol can be used by any local manufacturer who manufactures products in Western Australia. It can be attached directly to the product or its packaging. It can't be used by businesses providing services.

The Western Australian Owned symbol can be used by any local business.

Guidelines

EPS files of both symbols are available by modem from either The Desktop BBS (249 6414) or the Internet (www.typetamer.com.au).

If you would like copies of the EPS files but don't have access to a modem you may also bring a disk in to Type Tamer and we'll make a copy for you.
